Saujanya Acharya (saujanya@umich.edu) Saujanya received his undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering from Institute of Engineering - Pulchowk Campus (under Tribhuvan University) in Nepal. Before joining the MPSDS program, Saujanya worked initially in the humanitarian and the development sector (World Vision International Nepal's Innovation Lab) in designing and developing software applications for the sector for about 4 years, and later joined Viamo and worked as a Senior Program Manager in managing Interactive Voice Response (IVR) based mobile survey/data collection projects across Asia and Africa regions. Saujanya is also currently working at the SRO under the traineeship program, and finds his interests primarily in survey design, methodology, and survey data analysis.

Hanh Bui (hbui@umich.eduMs. Bui graduated with a Bachelor of Art’s degree in English from Hanoi University of Foreign Studies in Vietnam. She also received a Master of Art’s degree in Educational Studies at the University of Michigan. She is currently working as an Information Resource Specialist at the University of Michigan. Han is studying the social science emphasis of the program.

Yesdi Christian Calvin (yesdi@umich.edu) Mr. Yesdi's last degree is BASc in Statistics with a concentration in Economics, which he received from Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Statistik Jakarta in 2015. Working in BPS-Statistics of Indonesia at a regency level, he was involved in data collection as a survey coordinator, supervisor, and survey trainer for various projects in the Agriculture, Social, and Regional Balance section. Besides occupying as a budget analysis officer, his recent project was on GRDP estimation and analysis. His research focus is on developing sectoral statistics, which led him to pursue his master's in this program. Mr. Yesdi is a first-year master's student in the Social and Psychological Science track.
Anne Chang photo Hsin-Wen (Anne) Chang (hsinwenc@umich.edu) Ms. Chang is a second year MS in Survey and Data Science student.  Her research interest are Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience Research, Survey Methodology.  Anne  is an UX Research Fellow at the University of Michigan Center for Academic Innovation.
Leng Seong Che (lsche@umich.edu) Leng is currently a first-year master's student in the Survey and Data Science program. She received a B.S. in Quantitative Sciences with a concentration in sociology from Emory University in 2023. Her research interests are data quality for social science research, social demography, and machine learning for social sciences.
Wen Chen (wench@umich.edu) Wen Chen is a first-year student in the MPSDS program. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the University of Minnesota, paired with a minor in Statistics. During working as a research assistant at the Minnesota Population Center, Wen acquired hands-on experience processing educational and biometric survey data, along with kinship information. In her undergraduate thesis, she designed a survey grounded in social network theories to analyze international students' job-search endeavors in the U.S. Currently, Wen is engrossed in leveraging surveys to craft high-quality primary data. She hopes to collaborate with more researchers to foster a future rich in insightful and reliable data.

Xinyi (Chloe) Chen (chloexc@umich.edu) Ms. Chen received her Bachelor'sdegree in Sociology from Nanjing University in China, including an exchange semester at the University of Manchester. Before joining MPSDS, Ms. Chen worked as a data analyst intern at GSK where she learned basic practical applications of survey method and data analysis. Her previous studies mainly focus on health and medicine as well as policy analysis, and is now working as a research assistant in the Youth & Social Issuesteam at ISR. As a master student, she is studying the social science emphasis of the program.

Chia Wen Cheng photo Chia Wen Cheng (cwcheng@umich.edu) Ms. Cheng is a second year student at MPSDS.  She is interested in interdisciplinary research. As a non-traditional student, Ms. Cheng recognize the importance of creating involved and accessible dialogue among various groups. Currently, she is running workshops to raise public awareness of social justice and DEI across campus. She is also focus on advanced technology and emerging science and technology policy. She hopes to examine how representative multineural are in the survey data collection process, evaluate the results of public policy programs, and drive them toward DEI goals.

Annie Cohen (anniecoh@umich.edu) Ms. Cohen is a PhD student within the Survey and Data Science program. She graduated from Scripps College with a BA in Mathematics and Anthropology and received an MS in Biostatistics at the University of Michigan. She is also Co-President of Statistics in the Community (STATCOM).

Carlos Cristiano photo Carlos Cristiano (ccristbo@umich.edu) Mr. Cristiano is a second year Survey and Data Science student.  His research interest is in statistics with emphasis on sampling and machine learning. He also has skills in computer science, and survey analysis.
Aulia Dini  (aulia@umich.edu Ms Dini received her Bachelor of Applied Statistics from the Institute of Statistics Jakarta. Before joining the MPSDS program, she worked at BPS-Statistics Indonesia for six years. Ms. Dini has experience working with agricultural surveys and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators.
Curtiss Engstorm (cwengstr@umich.edu) Mr. Engstrom received his Master's Survey and Data Science at the University of Michigan and Bachelor's of Science at the University of Wisconsin in Sociology and Political Science. He has worked on various research projects over the last 5 years at the University of Wisconsin Survey Center, RTI International, the University of Michigan School of Nursing, and the National Science Foundation. His ongoing work focuses on measurement methods of sexual and gender minorities in health research, dependent interviewing techniques, and measurement differences between agree/disagree and item-specific question wording. He will be studying the social science emphasis in the Michigan Program in Survey and Data Science PhD Program. 
Nour Fakhoury (fakhourn@umich.edu) Ms. Fakhoury received a master’s degree in sociology from Eastern Michigan University and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Chicago, where she discovered her passion for research. Social research provides ways to understand different populations, communities and disparities, help shape policy, and develop appropriate services. She is eager to continue her education and learn the best research practices that need to be considered when conducting research, from phases of subject recruitment to data analysis.
Sara Finnbogadottir photo Sara Finnbogadottir (sarafinn@umich.edu Ms. Finnbogadottir is a second-year student pursuing an MS degree in Survey and Data Science. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Iceland (UI). As an undergraduate, she worked as a teaching assistant in the department of Political Science at UI (courses focused on practical statistics, questionnaires, data analysis, and inferences) and as a research assistant for the Icelandic National Election Study (ICENES). Ms. Finnbogadottir has done research on the socialization effect of mock elections on the electoral participation and democratic awareness of high school students in Iceland. She is also the secretary to the board of the Nordic Political Science Association (NoPSA).
Makenna Harrison (mharrsn@umich.eduMs Harrison received a Bachelor's degree in Statistics from the University of California - Davis. At UC Davis she became interested in the intersection between statistics, data science, and the social sciences after working with the research cluster, Hack4CA, on a project related to affordable housing in California. She also worked as a student assistant for the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies, researching rideshare and EV carshare pilot programs in the San Joaquin Valley.
Nia Holland photo Nia Holland (nhollan@umich.eduMs. Holland received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, where she participated in the NIH-NIGMS Research Training Initiative for Student Enhancement (RISE) Program, assisting in research on HIV/AIDS prevention. During her undergraduate tenure, she also studied abroad at the University of Ghana in Accra, Ghana. Prior to pursuing her current degree,  Ms. Holland obtained a Master's of Public Health in Health Behavior and Health Education from The University of Michigan School of Public Health. She is also a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
Fang-Yu (Rona) Hu (ronahu@umich.edu) Rona holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from National Chengchi University (NCCU) in Taiwan. As an undergraduate intern at NCCU Sleep Laboratory, she obtained Polysomnography (PSG) techniques. Before joining MPSDS, Rona spent two years at Quanthon Corporation in Taiwan, gaining hands-on experience in call center management, survey methods, and data analysis. She participated in 10+ bid-and-proposals, secured five contracts, and coordinated these projects from data collection (phone, online, and in-person surveys) to data analysis, literature review, policy/business brief drafting, and client communication. Currently, Rona is a first-year master's student in the data science track. She is also a research assistant in the Survey Methodology Program at the ISR, collaborating with Professor Brady West. Rona's research interests include survey methodology, applied survey data analysis, health informatics, and data-driven decision-making
Ruiling (Kiri) Kang (kangrl@umich.eduMs. Kang is a second-year student pursuing an MS degree in Survey and Data Science. Prior to starting MPSDS Ms. Kang received his Bachelor degree in Engineering of electronic commerce in Beijing . Her research interests lie in combining data science with other academic fields, such as business or society
Sihle Khanyile photo Sihle Khanyile (sihlek@umich.edu Mr. Khanyile is a second year Student in the MS Survey and Data Science Program (Data Science Emphasis), his junior degree was in applied math and statistics including a Post graduate Diploma in Complex Data Analysis for Development. Prior to Joining the Program Mr. Khanyile worked for over 10 years as a research statistician at Statistics South Africa. In 2020 he was a recipient of the Leslie Kish scholarship for the Sampling Program for Survey Statisticians.
Ang Li (angleee@umich.edu) Ang Li received his undergraduate degree in pure mathematics from OSU in 2022. He did research about the Matrix and the Time Machine. Ang was in charge of calculation and summarizing. He also had three internships in finance and health fields. And had the job of collecting data and summarizing them. Based on his research and work experience, he has an unbounded passion for exploring the unknown and summarizing regularities.

Mao Li (maolee@umich.eduMr. Li received his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Nanjing University in China, including a one-semester exchange program at National Taiwan University. He worked as an undergraduate research fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences (IAS) and as a teaching assistant at a summer school program in Nanjing University.  As a Master’s student, Mr. Li will be studying the social science track of the program.

Yuyao Liu photo Yuyao (Amber) Liu (liuyuyao@umich.edu Ms. Liu is a secondyear student in the Master of Survey and Data Science program.  She graduated from University of Connecticut with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology.   Her research interest include a variety of research methods to study and propose social problems, especially the issues about prejudice and stereotyping. Also, how the experiences of discrimination affect one's self-identity.

Zeyu Lou (louzeyu@umich.edu) Mr. Lou is a first-year MS in Survey and Data Science (data science concentration) & second-year MA in economics student. He received undergraduate degrees in Finance and Economics from The Ohio State University. His research interest is in computational social science, especially microeconomics like consumer behavior in quantitative analysis.

 
Keqing Lu (keqinglu@umich.edu) Ms. Lu is a first year MS in Survey and Data Science student.  Her research interest are data science and machine learnig.  Keqing graduated from University of Birmingham with a degree in Economics.
Yongchao Ma (ytma@umich.edu)  Mr. Ma is Ph.D. student at MPSDS.  He received his  B.A. in Sociology from China, and his  M.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Macau, including a one-semester exchange program at Linköping University in Sweden, and a research M.Sc. in Methodology and Statistics from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Before joining the MPSDS, Mr. Ma worked as an intern at Statistics Netherlands developing a methodology to optimize adaptive survey design and as a research engineer at Utrecht University developing a graphical user interface for an open source AI-based research
Noah Marcotte photo Noah Marcotte (nrmarc@umich.edu Mr. Marcotte is a second year MS student at MPSDS.   He attended University of Michigan and received a degree in Political Science with Honors in Middle East Studies and a Minor in American Culture, B.A.  His research interest are in public opinion and religion.
Sergio Martinez (sergiomm@umich.edu) Mr. Martinez is a Ph.D. student in the Survey and Data Science Program. He graduated with a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in statistics from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, where he is an assistant teaching professor in the Statistics Department. He has worked as a consultant in sample survey design and statistical analysis in government agencies, as well as in marketing and public opinion research companies.
Stephanie Morales (stephmo@umich.eduMs. Morales graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Texas at El Paso. Currently, Ms. Morales is pursuing her Ph.D. in the Michigan Program in Survey and Data Science where she focuses on cross-cultural survey methods and data collection among minorities and other underrepresented groups. 
Kaidar (Kai) Nurumov (knurumov@umich.edu) Kaidar received an MA in Political Science from the University of Mannheim and a BA in Regional Studies from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. After graduation Kaidar worked in a think tank in Kazakhstan (Information-Analytic Center) as a survey statistician and data analyst. His primary focus was on large-scale international assessment studies in education (PISA, PIAAC) and international education surveys in Kazakhstan.
Akari Oya (akarioya@umich.edu) Akari Oya received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan in 2020. For the last 3 years, she worked as a study manager at the Aging and Biopsychosocial Innovations Program. She has experience with collecting and analyzing survey and physiological data. Akari is a first-year master’s student in the Survey and Data Science program, with an emphasis in the social science area.
Longrong Pan (lrpan@umich.edu)  Ms. Pan is a second year student in the Master of Survey and Data Science program.  She received her  B.Sc. degree in Statistics from Beijing Jiaotong University and a B.A. degree in Journalism from Communication University of China.   Currently she is a research assistant working with Professor Philippa Clarke in the Social Environment and Health Program of the Institute for Social Research. The work focuses on the National Neighborhood Data Archive to build connections between neighborhoods and health.
Wenqing Qian (wqqian@umich.edu) Ms. Qian received her Bachelor's degree in statistics from Fudan University, Shanghai.  She is interested in topics like how digital trace data can facilitate social and demographic research and what statistical techniques might be applied to reduce the bias in such data.  Ms. Qian is a new member of the life history group in the Health and Retirement Study (HRS). She is also working as a guest researcher of the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) on a project about the user structure of a social media platform and its comparison with general population.

Sol Rabine (srabine@umich.edu) Sol is a first year Master's student in MPSDS. They received their Bachelor's in Psychology in 2021 from Michigan State University.

 

Timothy Raxworthy (raxworth@umich.edu)  Mr. Raxworthy is a second year student in the Master of Science in Survey and Data Science program.  He received a bachelor degree in Economics from Hampshire College.  His research interest are methods for data collection and cross national survey research, Social & Economic Research in Madagascar and Mental Health surveys in the United States, mental health treatment service evaluation.
Nicolas Rodriguez (nrod@umich.eduMr. Rodríguez graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Sociology at the Universidad Catolica in Santiago, Chile. He is interested in the data collection of nationally representative surveys. As a PhD student, Nicolás will be studying the social science emphasis of the program.
Htay-Wah Saw (htaywah@umich.edu) Mr. Saw is a doctoral student at the Michigan Program in Survey and Data Science (MPSDA). His current research focuses on examining sources of measurement errors associated with use of wearable electronic devices to collect information in various settings, and on designing innovative questionnaires to uncover response scale biases inherent in self-report data.

Deji Suolang (dsuolang@umich.eduMs. Suolang received a Master of Science degree in Survey and Data Science from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Nanjing University including one-year study at Utrecht University. She has worked at Johns Hopkins Medicine where she conducted web survey design and statistical analysis for survey/administrative data for a series of NIH-funded projects investigating racial disparities in stroke care and outcome. As a PhD student, her current research interests include the use of new technologies for data collection, adaptive survey design, the mix of survey data and big data, as well as the modeling of survey errors.

Bozhou (Peter) Tan (bztan@umich.edu) Mr. Tan received his bachelor's degree in accounting with a minor in sociology from Tsinghua University in China. He is currently a first-year master’s student in the Michigan Program in Survey and Data Science, with an emphasis on the social and psychological science track. He also works as a research assistant in Surveys of Consumers Attitudes (SCA).

Ilmul Jahan Tani  (ilmul@umich.edu) Ms. Tani received her Bachelor of Science from North South University, Bangladesh. Her research interests, borne out of her responsibilities at Associates for Community and Population Research, are survey management, computer-assisted data collection through tablets and smartphones, and data processing and management. Her career goal is to design and conduct large scale surveys to address public health issues.

Jessica Valencia (jessicva@umich.edu) Jessica is originally from Los Angeles, California and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at California State University Long Beach in Long Beach, California. She is a first-generation Latina and is very passionate about advocating for her community. She is currently involved on campus as event and logistics chair for PUENTES, the Latino graduate student organization at the University of Michigan. On her free time, she enjoys trying new recipes in the kitchen, roller-skating, and playing sports.
Zhuoyu Wang photo Zhuoyu Wang (zhuoyuwa@umich.edu)  Ms. Wang is a second year student in the Master of Science in Survey and Data Science program.  She received her Bachelor's degree in Sociology at Zhejiang University.   Ms. Wang's research interest are in social media for social research.  She is currently employed at HRS (the Health and Retirement Study) as a research assistant.

Qiyu Yang (qiyuyang@umich.edu) Qiyu graduated from Wuhan University with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and is interested in employing a variety of research methods to analyze social issues.

Shengteng Yang (yshengte@umich.edu) Shengtenggraduate from Beijing Technology & Business University in 2022 with a degree in Bachelor of Science and my major Applied Statistics.  Shengteng is a 1st year master student in MPSDS (survey statistics concentration).

Zhaoyu Yao photo Zhaoyu (Cecilia) Yao (zhaoyuy@umich.edu)  Ms. Yao received her Bachelor's degree in Sociology from University of Macau. She is interested in social media data mining and has conducted research related to discrimination and hate crimes in Chinese-speaking world amid COVID-19 pandemic. And Ms. Yao wants to explore more about cognitive interviews and interviewer effects to improve the data quality.

Wenshan (Phoebe) Yu (yuwens@umich.eduMs. Yu received her Bachelors of Arts degree in Korean and minored in Psychology at Peking University in Beijing, China.  Wenshan most recently worked as a Research Assistant for Center for Social Research at Peking University.  Ms. Yu graduated from the Michigan Program in Survey Methodology MS program in Spring 2019 and is now continuing her her studies in the MPSDS doctoral program in the Michigan Program in Survey and Data Science. 

Chendi Zhao (zhaocd@umich.edu Ms.Zhao is a Research Assistant and first-year Ph.D. student in the Program in Survey and Data Science. She received a Bachelor degree in Sociology from Beijing Normal University in China. As a Master student, Chendi and studied the social science emphasis of the program.  
Mingqian Zheng photo Mingqian (Elisa) Zheng (elisazmq@umich.edu) Ms. Zheng is a second-year student in the MS Survey and Data Science program with an emphasis on Data Science. She graduated with bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and Data Science (Computer Science concentration) from New York University Shanghai.  Her research interest is in computational social science, especially the underlying discrimination and bias in quantitative analysis.  
Dongqiang Zhou photo Dongqiang (Joe) Zhou (zdqyyds@umich.edu Mr. Zhou is a second year graduate student pursuing a MS in Survey and Data Science. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with an undergraduate degree in Sociology. He studied qualitative surveys in statistics during his undergraduate years.   Mr. Zhou also worked on quantitative surveys based on data from the Minnesota Population Center.  
 

Qichuan Zhou (qichuanz@umich.edu) Mr. Zhou graduated with a bachelor’s degree in cultural studies from Tsinghua University in China. He is currently a first-year master’s student in the Michigan Program in Survey and Data Science, with an emphasis on the data science track. His research interests include organizational behavior, survey methodology, and computational social science.
